Chemist’s Approach

All there was was cocaine, 1888.

It was not important that a drug made the pupils wide. Atropine, related to cocaine, did that. What was of note was the way it killed the appetite, the way it banished fatigue. Things were tried that did not have the difficulty to synthesize of cocaine, but retained the structural features necessary to keep the desired action.

……………………..O=COCH3
______ _______/
|……….|……………….\
l……….N-CH3…………\_OC=OPh
l_____l_________/

coke, seven corners = carbon skeleton, bicyclic, nitrogen bridge, dots don’t mean anything, solid lines do.

NCH3- present in meth
Ph- present in meth
N is beta to the carbon bearing the benzoic acid residue, meth is a beta phenethylamine.

(carbon bearing something)-(alpha position)-(beta position)-(gamma position)
………………..C…………………….C………………..C………………….C
………………………………………..α…………………β………………….γ

Oh, we have to get a reaction to put a bond to the carbon two away from where it wants to; we have to activate that position, we have to cause electron density to flow to it (make it a carbanion), or away (make it a carbocation).

By 1919, this was all done. coke had an anaesthetic action too, procaine was invented to do that.

Chemists do retrosynthetic analysis. They don’t have a chemical that looks like half of the target, so they “see” that half in the best form of a cheap chemical they do have.

Meth should be made in a single step.

Yes, get a damn sink. Otherwise, retile the bathroom and put it out of service while using it.

Everyone should know some chemistry, or else the people running things can tell you anything.

People run things in order to enrich themselves in crime and act with complete impunity.

[I jst saw a DVD on the poisonig by polonium of the dissident Russian Alexander Valterovich Litvinenko in England, and how that was only possible since the criminal Putin was in power.

I dn’t want to edit my last post, “Sarcoma”, because the word count is the same as the number of days until a predicted event, but, the more I think about it, the more I realize that the date I output was just as likely my next birthday. It’s a good birthday, my 58th, where my initials are “SB”, and 58 = SB, nobody can deny. I had to get “10157” from somewhere. I’d been using the 7200’s to multiply by meth’s CRC #, 1573, but I realized I coud go way over 10,000 and still hit a reasonable day. They go to 31, depending. Bt, they don’t go to 32. If I arbitrarily doubled 1005 to get next year (in the future; that’s what predictions are all about), I could just as well double the 02 of February to get the 04 of April, but I can’t double the 16 to get any day of a real month. 16042010 just says my next birthday, and I was the one playing, so that is probably “why”, but it is psychic chaos theory. Now it has overtones of a muse or a gnome, a leprechaun, maybe some internet troll, hacking this cuckoo brainwave trip. What did I predict would happen? I predict a birthday cake. What if I picked some kind with fruit out of season? Then it would ave a hard time happening. Yeah, that’s the nature of a good prediction. There has to be a giant fluke. Oh, I know anyway: I take the word that is only in the message because it is a keyword of the freak occurrence. Then I read downwards from that word. Like, in this message above where I am now, it does say “few”. Unable to demonstrate as described]
